Short King 2: Big Deck Energy
THE SHORT KING HATH RETURNED
Welcome back to the kingdom of Heightrule! You play as the Short King as he explores deep into the depths of some mysterious woods (colloquially known as "Big Wood" Woods) in search of a magic dragon who is rumored to have the power to make him taller. And in this deck-building roguelike game, you'll really be draggin' some cards! Har har!
A submission for the GMTK Game Jam 2026, where the theme is Countdown. There are so many things counting down in the game, it's hard to count them! Aha!
Enemies have fixed times of attack. You can watch their timers count down to determine the best course of action. Can you kill them before the countdown finishes and they attack? Or do you need to prep shields and heals to be able to defend against their attacks?
How will you manage your deck? Energy refills over time, but the ability to redraw your deck is (you guessed it) also on a countdown. Determining when to burn your current cards and energy vs. risking a brand new hand is all part of the strategy.
So many crazy ways to play. We are already prepping for the GOTY nomination.
Will you lead the Short King to victory and finally make him tall? Or will he end up princessless with his deck out once again? Only you can decide!

Nice game. I think auto-Redraw and maybe synergies would make it a bit more satisfying. Good job guys!
This is peak and hilarious I love it. If you want to add more to this game later on, I suggest making a weapon that the player has to use with a countdown, eg. a potion which heals you based on how much time is left in the fight
can confirm i ended up princessless with my deck out. great game guys!!!!
